Motahareh Pourbehzadi. As a forthcoming Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG), I bring a unique blend of academic experience and dedication to supporting women in the field.
My journey in academia has been marked by a commitment to research, teaching and mentorship. As a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida (USF) from 2019-2021, and through my doctoral studies in Electrical Engineering at Shiraz University of Technology, I have developed a strong foundation in interdisciplinary research, particularly in the realms of engineering and data analytics. I got to know the field of Information Systems after joining my second Ph.D. program in Big Data Analytics at the Department of Information Systems at Muma College of Business at USF in 2021.
This transition allowed me to delve deeper into the world of Information Systems, and I was struck by the disparity in gender representation within the field. Rarely encountering female scholars left me with a sense of non-fulfillment and underscored the importance of initiatives like AISWN in providing support and opportunities for women in Information Systems. Consequently, I focused my research endeavors on algorithmic and social fairness and I even dedicated my dissertation to women who have been overlooked, unheard, and undiscovered.
Through my experiences, I have come to understand the significance of fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment for female scholars. As a woman in academia, I am passionate about advocating for gender diversity and creating inclusive spaces where all individuals can thrive.
By nominating myself for this role, I am demonstrating my unwavering support for AISWN's mission to provide opportunities and resources for female scholars in the field of Information Systems.
